Welcome to the Year 8 Extra ICT project!

Welcome!

Deadline of Friday 1 October 2010

Project Theme

Mozart is coming to play a gig at Clevedon school and you need to promote the event.

This project has a completion deadline of Friday 1 October 2010 - you should email your teacher at this time and let them know where they can find your completed work. It should consist of:

  • a plan
  • a project diary discussing what happened each lesson, any problems you had and how you solved them
  • a spreadsheet showing costs and charts
  • a database with Mozart's songs imported in
  • a piece of media to promote the event
  • a review of your project

Task 1 - Plan

  1. Make a folder in your My Documents to save all of your work in using the name ICT Mozart
  2. Use the plan template found on the R: drive (R:/ICT/Extra Y8 ICT/Plan template.xls) to create a plan showing what tasks you have to complete and when you aim to complete them.
  3. Save your completed plan to your ICT Mozart folder

Task 2 - Project diary

  1. You should record your project diary every lesson - please create a new Word document and set it up ready for you to make your entries every lesson

Task 3 - Spreadsheet

  • It costs £2000 for Mozart to come and play at the school. The hall can hold 500 people. We would like to make a profit of £4000. Using spreadsheet software, create a model showing required ticket prices that will generate the profit of £4000 with 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500 people attending.
  • Plot your figures to a bar chart.
  • Save all work to your ICT Mozart folder

Task 4 - Database

Mozart has written lots of different pieces of music - he has asked that we create a database of his various compositions.
  1. Make the database table in Microsoft Access with the following field names:
    1. Song ID
    2. Name of song
    3. Year written
  2. Import the data from the text file, "Songs.txt" found on the R: drive here: (R:/ICT/Extra Y8 ICT/Songs.txt)
  3. Screenshot your finished database with all of your data in it in to your Project diary
  4. Save both your project diary and your database

Task 5 - Promotion!

It's time to promote the event - you can do this however you want but it must contain the following information:
  • Time: 7pm
  • Date: Saturday 2 October 2010
  • Ticket price: Use your ticket price if 300 people attend
  • Information: Brief info on Mozart (no more than 140 characters!)
  • Imagery: a copyright free image which relates to the performance
  • Songs: which four songs Mozart will be playing at the event
Some ideas you might like to use to promote the event:

  • Poster
  • Flyer
  • Movie
  • Presentation
  • Video

Task 6 - Review

Load up the review template ((R:/ICT/Extra Y8 ICT/Review template.docx) and complete. It is expected that this document be at least 2 full sides of A4 with the font no larger than size 12.

Good luck!!
